About The Type House
The Type House was formed by Linda Russell in early 2023. Linda has been a professional typesetter since finishing secondary school, back when laying out pages for a book required the use of paste-up glue and a steady hand.
Linda decided to start her own business focused on designing books after taking on a personal project — a family history book. Throughout her career, she has been inspired and motivated by the delight authors experience when holding the product of their hard work in their hands. However, this project gave her much greater insight into how much research, time and expense is involved in writing a book, and what an emotional journey writing a family history can be.
Where authors have paid for documents, images, and official records it is worth preserving these as a complete record and a legacy for future generations. When all that hard work is presented poorly, in a book with little attention given to typography and design, it does neither the content nor the author justice. Linda’s love of typography and well laid-out page designs along with her years of practical experience means that books designed by The Type House are well-crafted and indistinguishable from those produced by household-named publishing houses.
Just as every story is personal to its author, the Type House is a bespoke business. Linda will only take on a new book project where there is a good fit with her client and their goals, and when she can ensure they get her full attention with a book designed specially with them in mind.
Those who've worked with us say...
“As technology changes there is nothing more satisfying than traditional skills being retained, embraced and improved.
In Linda’s career she has typeset hundreds of publications: magazines, brochures, and 400-page books. I have no hesitation in recommending Linda, who in the past has typeset a 148-page book for me personally.
The technology may have changed, but the knowledge and expertise live on with people like Linda and The Type House.”
Jim Burke (Ekrub Publishing – Matt’s Last Muster)
“I felt stuck. I knew what I wanted achieved with the end result, but didn’t know how it should look. A few questions, some clarity and I am very happy with what Linda suggested and produced.”
Lynda Hull (Consultant Organisational Structure)
“A true master of her craft, Linda’s unparalleled attention to detail sets her apart. Her commitment to perfection is evident in every project she undertakes. She is task orientated and will work consistently until all work is completed.
Beyond her professional skills, Linda is a calmly mannered, genuine person who is enjoyable to work with. Her candid and direct approach fosters effective communication, making her an invaluable asset for any collaborative endeavour.
If you’re seeking an individual who not only approaches their work with precision but will work alongside you, guiding you through the project, Linda is the obvious choice. I wholeheartedly recommend her to anyone seeking the expertise of an experienced print designer, confident in her ability to exceed expectations and deliver an end product that you will love.”
